Creative Team 2019-2020

The Creative Team drives the ensemble towards our artistic goals by leading our rehearsals each week, selecting meaningful and challenging repertoire, bringing in expert coaches, conducting regular vocal assessments, and participating in workshops to improve their own vocal, conducting, and performance skills.

Mira Taferner, Artistic Director

Mira is a widely successful performance artist and designer with over 15 years of experience in a cappella, barbershop, and dance. She served on the Visual and Music Teams for the Harmunichs, a three-time champion of Barbershop in Germany (“BinG!”), and in March 2016, she took home the bronze medal with her quartet Kickstart at the BinG! National Convention. This allowed her to join the Heavy Medal chorus, a mixed Barbershop ensemble from Germany consisting of BinG! quartet medalists. Mira’s first performance with Sirens of Gotham was at the Sweet Adelines International Harmony Classic contest, where she helped guide the chorus towards a 1st Place finish.

Mira is a recurring faculty member at BinG! Harmony College and has been an ambassador for expansion and celebration of barbershop music in Europe. She is also a professional senior graphic designer with over 7 years of work experience.

Creative Team Leaders

Lana Klemeyer, Creative Team Coordinator Lana discovered her love of barbershop singing with Sirens of Gotham in 2014, but began classical voice training at the age of 14 and continues to this day. She fosters a passion for opera that started early with her father's influence; they continue to share and enjoy a season subscription to the MET. Over the years, she has been active in choral singing, chamber choirs, and musical theater. Her favorite roles have been the title role in Evita and Sarah Brown in Guys & Dolls. Her interest in the arts led her to study Accessory Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. She now works as a Design Director for Nina Footwear in NYC. Originally a native of the Poconos in Pennsylvania, she has lived in the NYC area for the past 15 years and now enjoys a daily escape to the suburbs with her husband, David.

Samantha Bunting, Head Section Manager, Bass Section Manager Sam has been singing in a cappella groups and choirs since elementary school. She is an experienced musician—she studied vocal performance at the University of Colorado and has trained on six instruments to different degrees of awesomeness. She even sometimes performs as a lead and back-up vocalist with bands in the New York area. Although Sam honed her skills in music education while serving as the musical director of her college a cappella group, she is relatively new to the barbershop world, having first become an official member of Sweet Adelines in 2013. She is amped to be in the Sirens' stellar bass section and is incredibly proud to have taken 2nd place in the 2018 Region 15 Quartet Competition as the Bass of the quartet Drive! Sam has taught mathematics for most of her professional career and currently works in educational publishing, creating mathematics software for students of any age. She would love to chat with you about education, music, or math—or the intersection of all three. So, introduce yourself to her... she’s pretty rad.
